About the San Diego Police Department

The San Diego Police Department (SDPD) is the primary law enforcement agency of San Diego, California. It was established on May 16, 1889.

The SDPD is responsible for providing law enforcement services to the city of San Diego, which has a population of over 1.4 million people. The department has over 2,000 sworn officers and over 900 civilian employees.
